Liberals Love to Hate Christians

"You Christians are so unlike Your Christ!"

An American pastor once said during a European conference, "The Gospel came to the Greeks and the Greeks turned it into a philosophy...the Romans turned it into a system...Europeans turned it into a culture...and the Americans turned it into a business." One American institution that turned Christianity into a business is TBN, a major media portal to the world that televises the "gospel of greed" and other despicable heresies (2 Peter 2:1). Millions of innocent souls watch TBN and are endlessly prodded to give what little money they have to an already wealthy business entity. The business of selling blessings and favors from God provides a glamorous lifestyle to "precious few" while extracting sacrificial seed offerings from the "underprivileged many". Jan Crouch, in her soft sugary voice said on TBN, "God has a special blessing for the little women who have caught the vision of giving, even if only their grocery money." Have they no shame?

Gandhi, having thought deeply about the Christian faith, said, "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."

Liberals* hate Christians because they view us as greedy and hypocritical. The liberal news media loves to report on evangelical leaders who preach against a particular sin and then become ensnared by the same sin. Former New Life Church pastor Ted Haggard preached often and fervently against homosexuality, claiming to be a faithful servant, and was later found to be actively living a homosexual lifestyle. Liberals see Haggard's moral failure as a demonstration of hypocrisy and further proof Christianity is just another powerless religion run by charlatans who want a weekly tithe. In addition to Haggard's failure, countless other high-profile evangelicals have failed, causing irreparable damage to the cause of Christ.

Although "greed and hypocrisy" are two reasons liberals love to hate Christians, there are many more. While most liberals live within the legislative rule of our government, they lobby for reform that will free them from traditions and timeworn values that have faithfully served this nation since its inception. Furthermore, many liberals want legislative action that will remove longstanding morality norms that no longer fit into their progressive agenda. The deeper problem, for us, is that the liberal mindset is unable to discern between perverted Christianity and the genuineness of Christ and His Gospel. From the liberal's perspective, it is easier to label all Christians as crazies who believe in fairy tales and lack the capacity to know the difference.

"Colleges and universities are staffed with liberal professors who support each other with shared views. They refuse to teach American history and other courses essential for sustaining our national heritage and patriotic traditions. Students are indoctrinated with environmental and animal rights propaganda while receiving no religious training. Movies and hours of television uphold the liberal agenda as the 'elite group' in America while simultaneously portraying Christians as Looney Toon characters not to be taken seriously. Young liberals learn early in school that to think on your own and question authority is both uncool and ill-advised. Liberals learn to embrace intolerance towards any view outside their own, and to drink freely and often from the same poisonous waterhole of godless ideology." [1]

So then, would liberals still "love to hate Christians" if we lived like Christ? The answer is YES because godliness is always an indictment on godlessness. Liberals want freedom from behavioral restraints and especially from the fetters imposed by Christianity. Liberals want to redefine life in a way that will uphold their liberal agenda at the expense of others. Liberals' believe government is the only authority we will ever need. Because liberals have no room for God, they will make no room for you or me in the coming New World Order. [2]

Liberals hate Christians for one reason above all others. Jesus spoke "truths" that would forever condemn immoral ways, exposing all godless beings as overflowing with vile passions (John 7:7; John 14:6). Like roaches in the night that scatter at sunrise, liberals abhor the light of biblical truth and sense great discomfort in the presence of just one believer. Why? The apostle Paul answered it best by saying, "To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life..." (2 Corinthians 2:16).

While born-again Christians are flawed beings, God declared us to be "works in progress" (Philippians 1:6); and, despite our struggles and failures, we press on towards the high calling in Christ Jesus, knowing our path is narrow and often unimaginably hard to walk (Philippians 3:12-14). Through it all, we learn to love God and love people, freely forgiving those who hate us (Luke 23:34).

* The term "liberals", for the purpose of this article and regardless of political and religious affiliation, are those who reject the rule of Christ in their hearts.
